[SPAM]

Until recently, I've been lucky to be relatively SPAM-free. I'd get maybe 5/week. Meanwhile I had friends who would sheepishly grumble about the hundreds of penile- and breast- and libido- enhancement emails they'd get, embarrassed that people would think that they must have gone to "some website" or signed up to "some listserv" to deserve it. Being "in the business" of computer support, I, of course, recognize that spam happens. And when the secretary, in tears, swears to me that she hasn't gone to any of "those sites", and begs me to make it go away, I understand and reassure: spam happens; it's going to be okay.

And now I've been getting "housewife hotties" and some eBook advertisement about "how to have the best sex humanly possible" -- great stuff, really. But here's the really interesting part: After the animated GIF of female faces in the throes of (what looks like) ecstasy (or torture?), there are lines of maxims like: Do videnja. / We make the world we live in and shape our own environment. Don't steal thou it never thus compete successfully in business. Cheat./ One of the oldest human needs is having someone wonder where you are when you don't come home at night. / Clothes make the poor invisible. America has the best-dressed poverty the world has ever known. / One must be a somebody before they can have a enemy. One must be a force before he can be resisted by another force. / The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power. It is the heart which perceives God and not the reason. That is what faith is: God perceived by the heart, not by the reason. / A bad review is even less important than whether it is raining in Patagonia. / Joy runs deeper than despairThere is no sweeter sound than the crumbling of ones fellow man. / Whenever science makes a discovery, the devil grabs it while the angels are debating the best way to use it. / A man who strains himself on the stage is bound, if he is any good, to strain all the people sitting in the stalls. / A failure establishes only this, that our determination to succeed was not strong enough. / There cannot be greater rudeness than to interrupt another in the current of his discourse. A good review from the critics is just another stay of execution. We are not won by arguments that we can analyze, but by tone and temper by the manner, which is the man himself. / Families with babies and families without babies are sorry for each other. / A wise man admits his weaknesses. I'd admit mine if I had any.

And each email has different ones. It really makes me want to click on the GIF and find out exactly "why your fingernails might literally be ruining your love life." but then getting bits of philosophy between bits of sexual wisdom might not be a good idea.
